Prayer (1 minute)

Write a one sentence prayer and use it for the next seven day. Praying it daily helps bed in your commitment to it being realised.

If your Envoy community has a WhatsApp/Telegram community why not share your Action/habit plus prayer and/or opportunities you've had this week to release value to someone. Alternatively you can start your meet-up by sharing this together.

1

PRAYER AND HABIT EXERCISE (how then shall I live?)

Go to last weeks afterthought.

Take a few minutes to answer the 'how then shall I live' question in light of the comments from your Envoy community

(you hopefully recorded what they said).

Action/Habit  (1 minute)

HOW THEN SHALL I LIVE?

If what you recorded in your 'apply' section last week were to be part of your normal life, what would it look like?

Write it down, even if it seems farfetched or impossible. It might be an event or an attitude shift or both!

Next write a habit that might be needed to help you get there. It might be something to stop or start and will find its starting point in either your heart, mind or strength.

Are there two or three steps you need to take to make this a reality?

It would be crazy to expect a new action every week, our hope for you is an evolving and active evangelism but we need to start somewhere.

What you think about the most grows, hence praying this one sentence prayer every day.

This growth from within the prayer moving through my heart and mind will begin to shape my perspective - it will start to fuel and energise me and begin to move into strength and therein impact the choices I make and evangelism moments in front of me - stopping for the one starts to become second nature.

Read Luke 8 v 11- 15

Taken from The Voice version.

Jesus explains the parable of the sower.

11 The voice of God falls on human hearts like seeds scattered across a field.

12 Some people hear that message, but the devil opposes the liberation that would come to them by believing. So he swoops in and steals the message from their hard hearts like birds stealing the seeds from the footpath.

13 Others receive the message enthusiastically, but their vitality is short-lived because the message cannot be deeply rooted in their shallow hearts. In the heat of temptation, their faith withers, like the seeds that sprouted in gravelly soil.

14 A third group hears the message, but as time passes, the daily anxieties, the pursuit of wealth, and life’s addicting delights outpace the growth of the message in their hearts. Even if the message blossoms and fruit begins to form, the fruit never fully matures because the thorns choke out the plants’ vitality.

15 But some people hear the message and let it take root deeply in receptive hearts made fertile by honesty and goodness. With patient dependability, they bear good fruit.

The Trust Bridge

The Trust bridge represents the relationship between you and another person. Different levels of trust exist with different people. This is  most relevant to our connected and chosen relationships.

Discipling evangelism can only be to the extent/capacity that your relationship can hold. Invest into and guard the trust. Take only what the relationship can hold in any one moment.

It isn't just trust of you that is broken but willingness or ability to trust the message you bring when we exceed the capacity of our connected or chosen relationship.

Pools within the the bigger pool where you hope for or are aware of chemistry and connection.

Each pool decreases in size as not everyone will be interested in exploring faith or knowing Jesus.

Low.

How to use your pools guide.

In your notepad draw some triangles and add to each triangle the place, space or person that this pool of connection represents.

Now pray for each person, place or space scribble down anything you become aware of. How well connected are you? Are you moving towards each other, away from each other or static? How is the trust? How can you invest in this connection so it carries some momentum? Will you have to decrease commitments in another area of your life to increase commitment here?

What bridge points might be worth pursuing with these people, places or spaces? What will initiative look like on your part? How might invitation happen? Don't just settle on one, get creative and even a step of progressive bridging points. We won't ask your to act on them (at least not yet!). Right now we simply want to invest in being connected and building trust.

What will initiative and invitation look like during this break with this person, place or space? It might be as basic as messaging or inviting for a meal.

Who from the names you wrote last week will you be asking your Envoy community to be praying for in the coming weeks? Bring these name and thoughts from this week along to your next meet up.

Afterthought outline questions

Awareness  (1-2 minutes)

Record what thoughts, feelings or attitudes are floating around your head after listening to the podcast? Create a list of between 4-7 thoughts.

Attention  (4-5 minutes)

Pick one of the 4 -7 thoughts to think and write about a little more deeply.

Why this thought?

What is it there for?

Is this thought part of a bigger network of thoughts, experiences or conversations I’ve had in the past or recently?

What emotions are attached to it, how am I feeling because of it?

If I pursue this to its conclusion what will it cost me/What will its gain be?

Amend  (1-2 minutes)

Read over what you have just written in the attention section.

Ask the Holy Spirit if anything needs to be amended, added or removed.

Now amend add or remove.

Apply  (1 minute)

You have reached the point where you can answer the earlier question. How, then, shall I live?

Think of it as a conclusion or perhaps the bit of gold or pearl that you’ve uncovered after all the digging around.

This is what you will bring to your next meet up.
